BOAT IN DISTRESS - NOT TAKING ON WATER
At 2:13 PM today our 911 center received a few emergency calls for sailboat overturned on the Potomac River near Chapmans Point. The Fire/EMS resources were dispatched to the area to attempt to locate the vessel. Command established by Chief 7 (Gimmel), a sail boat was observed on its side just off shore approximately 40 feet. Fire Boat #8 launched and arrived to the vessel location. The water current and wind at this point prohibited Boat #8 to get any closer, they deployed two "dive team swimmers" to assist with any rescue recovery needs. Boat #4 was assigned to stage in the area as a security perimeter for the incident. Two occupants from the sailboat were secured on shore and taken to the command post location. DNR Police will handle the investigation at this point.
17 Fire/EMS personnel responded to this incident, no injuries were reported
Note: the vessel in the graphic was not the vessel involved in this incident
