Waldorf Volunteers and Surrounding Departments Battle 2-Story Dwelling Fire

Just before 6:30 PM Charles County 911 Center received a call for a house on fire and an elderly man lives there unsure if he was home located in the 5600 block of Needlefish Court in the Dorchester community of Westlake. Within 2 minutes of the dispatch Waldorf Chief 3 (Durrer) arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing through the roof of the structure. Chief 3's 360 reports "2 story with no basement, fire on 2nd floor." Waldorf Volunteer fire units arrived behind Chief 3, advancing hose lines and conducting a through search of the home. Truck #1 from La Plata assisted in the search and overhaul assisted by Truck #20 Incoming Fire/EMS units were given assignments as they arrived, 10 minutes after arriving, Command "staged" remaining units still responding. Both "primary and secondary searches proved negative", fire is out, holding units from Company #3 and #12. One firefighter was transported to an area hospital for "checkup heat exhaustion", Fire Marshal's Office is responding to the scene to conduct an investigation of the cause.
