Nanjemoy Volunteer Chris Windsor Receives MSFA Colburn Cup Award

By Coordinator/Public Information Officer William Smith
June 20, 2024

The award is to be awarded in line of succession from year to year to a firefighter in our organization for some outstanding act of heroism or from some act for the good of the Association. Please read the incident below from the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Chief:

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department Member Chris Windsor went above and beyond the call of duty and acted in pure heroism, while his family and many by standers looked on. Without hesitation, Firefighter Windsor went to work removing an individual from a burning vehicle that was fifty percent (50%) involved at the time. Without a doubt, if Firefighter Windsor had not have been in the right place at the right time, this gentleman would have lost his life to this incident. In my interaction with Firefighter Windsor and other members from the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department, as well as members from the Tenth District Fire Department, this was clearly an act of heroism with Firefighter Windsor acting on his own with no protective equipment and no other fire or rescue personnel or equipment on the scene to assist him or protect him while taking these live saving actions. Firefighter Windsor has been a member of Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department since 2009 and has always been a member in good standing. He is well deserving of this award and received Fireman of the Year for this action in March 2024 during the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department Annual Banquet and Awards ceremony. Firefighter Windsor is at the station daily and is the definition of a true volunteer, giving his time, all while being a hard-working family man.
