🚨 STRUCTURE FIRE | CUCKOLD CREEK ROAD 🚒

At approximately 10:40 a.m., during one of the hottest days of the summer, the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS, along with surrounding fire and EMS departments, responded to the 11,000 block of Cuckold Creek Road for a reported house fire.

Paramedic Ambulance 14, already in the area, was the first unit to arrive and confirmed an active structure fire.

Engine 143 and Engine 61 arrived shortly afterward and immediately went to work. With no WATER hydrant system available in the area, crews established a water supply through a drafting operation from the Potomac River.

The officer of Engine 61, Goldsmith, reported heavy fire conditions involving both the first and second floors of the two-story, single-family residence.

🔥 FIREFIGHTING OPERATIONS

Crews from E61, E143, and E12 advanced multiple hose lines to contain the rapidly developing fire. Truck 1 and Truck 28 assisted with operations and confirmed that no occupants remained inside the residence.

Upon his arrival, BC28 (NDW Battalion Chief) established command. Command was subsequently transferred to BC1B (Godwin), with BC28 assigned as Operations.

Due to the volume of fire and the challenges associated with maintaining an adequate water supply, crews transitioned to a master-stream operation utilizing Truck 1 and Truck 28.

Command also requested two fireboats to provide an additional water-supply resource to support fireground operations.

🚒 REGIONAL MUTUAL-AID RESPONSE

Mutual-aid companies and personnel from Charles County, St. Mary’s County, King George County and NDW Dahlgren responded to Cobb Island and assisted throughout the incident. Fire and EMS personnel operated at the scene for approximately five hours, working through extreme summer heat and challenging fire conditions.

The fire was ultimately brought under control, and all occupants were accounted for.

A 73-year-old female resident and owner of the home was subsequently transported to an area hospital after experiencing chest pain and symptoms of smoke inhalation.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal will conduct an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the displaced family.

While numerous companies operated on Cuckold Creek Road, surrounding departments also helped maintain emergency coverage for the community. Engine 112 from Bryans Road transferred to Cobb Island, while Leonardtown Engine 11 transferred to Newburg.
