| It was a full house last night at the Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad as EMS providers from several area volunteer departments came together for an outstanding evening of continuing education. In addition to the strong in-person turnout, approximately 20 more providers joined virtually through Microsoft Teams!
The training featured Amy L. Motz, RN, Transport Nurse with Children’s National Hospital, who presented an informative program on Pediatric Respiratory Assessments.
Providers reviewed pediatric respiratory assessment techniques, recognizing retractions and abnormal respiratory sounds, and identifying common pediatric respiratory emergencies including pneumonia, RSV/bronchiolitis, croup, asthma, foreign-body obstruction, allergic reactions, and tracheomalacia.
Pediatric emergencies can be some of the most challenging calls our EMS providers encounter. Training opportunities like this help ensure our volunteers have the knowledge, confidence, and skills necessary when our youngest patients need us most.
👏 Special thanks to the Charles County Volunteer Rescue Squad for hosting the training, Amy Motz and Children’s National Hospital for sharing their expertise, and all of the providers who participated—both in person and online.
A full house, great participation, and another excellent night of EMS training in Charles County! 🚑❤️
